Website scope and payments

Build to Own · £149/mo12 monthly payments total £1,788: £1,200 for the build and £588 for care during the term. Ownership follows the final cleared payment, with no buyout fee.

Own from Launch · From £1,200A fixed scope, price and payment schedule agreed before work starts. Ownership follows final payment, with 30 days of defect support after launch. Ongoing hosting and care are separate.

The standard scope includes up to 5 core marketing pages for one business, copywriting for those agreed pages, custom design, a mobile-friendly build, an enquiry form and agreed key-action tracking setup. You supply accurate business details and assets you have permission to use. You review the copy and design through 2 consolidated revision rounds before launch. Further revisions or changes to the agreed scope are quoted separately.

Extra pages, long-form copy, shops, portals, booking systems, integrations and other complex features need a separate quote. Tracking setup does not include ongoing campaign analysis.

Payment one is due at kickoff, with no separate setup fee. Each monthly payment includes £100 for the build and £49 for care. Project support and the managed build environment are covered before launch; live hosting, backups, maintenance and small edits begin at launch. Prices exclude VAT where chargeable. Your proposal confirms the final amount payable before work starts.

Search foundations and optional SEO

The build includes technical search foundations within the agreed pages: page titles and descriptions, semantic structure, mobile layouts, performance work, crawlable content, a sitemap and robots directives. This is a defined part of building the website.

Ongoing SEO is optional and separately priced after a review. We agree priorities, monthly work, reporting and the fee before starting. New content, research, local search work or other SEO activity is included only where stated in that scope. Neither the build nor care includes unlimited SEO work.

We do not guarantee search rankings, traffic or enquiries. You can use your own SEO specialist; we can implement supplied instructions through care where they qualify as small edits, or quote larger work separately.

About SEO support

Website care and small changes

Managed Care covers hosting, SSL, backups, security and dependency maintenance, technical support and 30 minutes of small content edits each month for the agreed website. Unused edit time does not roll over. We work on one request at a time and quote work beyond the allowance before starting. A small edit is a clearly defined change to an existing page using supplied content or clear instructions: text, images, links, opening hours, prices or contact details, for example.

We aim to acknowledge requests within one working day and complete routine small edits within three working days once content, access and instructions are complete. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm UK time, excluding public holidays in England. Send requests to hello@hexlay.co.uk.

If the live website is unavailable and reported before 3pm on a working day, we begin triage that day. These are service targets; resolution depends on the cause and any third-party provider involved.

New pages, substantial design changes, new features, integrations and new copy are separate work. Larger jobs cannot be divided into small requests to bring them into care. SEO, advertising, photography, branding, email services and third-party charges are not included in care.

Ownership and handoff

Your domain, supplied content, brand assets, enquiry data and analytics accounts remain yours throughout. After the final agreed payment, the project-specific design and code become yours. Before then, the site is licensed for use while payments are current.

Hexlay retains pre-existing tools, reusable components and working methods. You receive a perpetual licence to embedded Hexlay components needed to run, modify and host your transferred website. Third-party software, fonts, assets and services retain their own licences; any restrictions are disclosed in the proposal.

After ownership transfers, you can request a portable copy of the project files and available client content, normally supplied within 10 working days. We agree hosting migration and any third-party account arrangements with you.

If you leave before the monthly term ends, the remaining build balance shown in your proposal must be settled before ownership transfers. You are not charged for future care that will not be supplied. We agree the handoff and hosting end date.

After the payment term

The build payment ends after 12 cleared payments. You can choose Managed Care at £49/mo, or take your website to another host or developer. We confirm your choice before the term ends; care is a separate ongoing service.

After ownership, care can be cancelled with 30 days’ written notice. The website remains yours. Your replacement hosting and any ongoing third-party costs are your responsibility after the handoff.

Your review and approval

You are responsible for the accuracy of business details and claims, permission to use supplied assets, relevant account access and timely feedback. We draft the agreed copy and prepare the website for your review. Launch follows your approval and the agreed payment terms.
